Steven is enamoured with various forms of change, and you can see some of it in his oil paintings. He did not post some of his studies and artwork on this site. But one thing he did post was the collection of pieces, such as Happy mother's day (a) and Happy mother's day (b), It's time to go home now,Weeds, Pink, and various others. They were studies on environmental change, which is the study of how the art was transformed by the artist contrasting various states. At first, he became drunk, and then painted. Then he was sober and caffeinated. Then he painted the rest of the piece. The contrast between the two states enhanced the art.... at least that was the goal.He also studied the way he contrasted colors in the lines in all his line art. This is most evident in Posies, where black and, separately, colored lines created the artwork. In Staccato, Steven studied M-duf, or Multi-directional universal foreshortening. By drawing out an image from many perspectives, and then cutting up the drawings, and then re-attaching them mixed up, a new balance was created that formed a piece of art that could not be visualized in any other way.In another piece (Spring, Summer, and Fall), vertical slats were create and painted on. As you shifted your gaze, the image changed. In Meridian, it is painted in an impasto that could be painted on top of itself, causing the color of the artwork to change colors as you shift your stance. Also all his line oil paintings were created as controlled impasto.Hisuncontrolled oil paintingsis free flowing, but still line art. The paint has a fresh look, while using less structure. His dash oil paintingsare comprised of dashes, but at the same time, focus on color. His hollow oil paintingscombines the line style with brush work to create a unique look.
Steven is constantly creating. He paints. He is also a writer and a composer/musician. He has written three novellas, several short stories, at least 50 poems, and a full length novel. Plus he is working on another full length novel now.
