Find what you want to show first... For example, impressionism showed the light and not the things painted.
If I try to figure out a new way to use the brushes, I may and probably will get lost.
What is important is what I am trying to say by altering the brush strokes.
negative space
use the true movement of the brushstrokes to create the air/negative space~~~but what of the objects such as the trees
To show the thickness of the air/moistness of the humidity. And the force it exerts on us. This is stronger near the beach where the air is salty and humid from the breaking of the waves.
By using the broken/splayed brushes.... the aged ones.
Using more oil may make it too thick but making it thinner with gamisol and then oil and gamisol will make it thinner.

Though a few of these pieces were done on canvas, most were done on hardboard that was covered with hardened clear acrylic. At the time I was creating these, the imagery was unimportant to me. The lines and the color theory was. I was also practicing the 'pop'. I wanted to master it. I was learning how to disassociate the outcoming color from the pigments, and balance the HVSWhite.
When I painted these, I intentionally did it with clear acrylic on brown hardboard instead of gesso. Artists will often use gesso as a mirror to brighten the paint. I wanted to learn to do this without the help of tools like gesso. A few pieces have gesso just because they were on canvas.
